If they all come back with the same results then you know for sure that they were using black hat techniques. If you get a report from one seo company only then they could be telling you fibbs just so that you leave your current company and go with them. One thing that I will mention is that black hat techniques will get you to page 1 fast but you will also loose your rankings just as fast also. As mentioned above you could get the sandbox penalty and get deindexed if this was to happen. Just remember as long as you didnt provide your ftp access then you should be fine as if there was a method used then they would have to directly implement it on your site - For those that dont agree with this then all I can say is that if a technique existed to get your site penalised without actually having access to the sites core files then im sure many companies would be paying thousands to get their competitors sites penalised - Google understands this.
