Whats the best way to get a higher search engine ranking?

March 7th, 2010 | by admin |

I have a website but it has slipped down the rankings. Any suggestions? I want to do it without paying out to a 3rd party.

Learn SEO… Plan on spending months researching and expect to make a lot of mistakes, while implementing the things you learn, along the way. There are a lot of "SEO guidelines" online that are outdated, misleading, and or not detailed enough for the average newbie to comprehend.

As the other answers confirm here, many believe that back links are the Holy Grail that will solve your problems. When in fact, securing backlinks only makes up about 1/4 of a complete SEO campaign that will provide and maintain proper search engine placement within the top search engines results. I especially get a kick out of the answers that recommend a bunch of linking stratagies to someone with a website that has almost no On-page SEO structure like yours. LOL

Proper On-page SEO structuring is almost non-existant on your homepage and most likely all of your pages. I don’t have enough spare time to examine all your pages and just give you some free advise to boot.

Here are 5 vital tips that I guarantee will help you out:

1. Add a document type to your pages!

2. Add a title tag to your website pages! Make sure that the title is unique for each page and contains keywords relavent to your business that a customer would use to describe your services. Note: Don’t use the same word more than twice in each title and I recommend keeping each title under 70 characters in length.

3. Never put Javascript or CSS scripts into the head section of your webpage unless absolutely necessary! Copy and paste them into external files and link to them from the head section like you did with your other CSS script.

4. Analytics code should be placed at the bottom of your document right before the closing html tag! Not between the head tags as you have done.

5. Fix your Meta tags! Shorten your description meta tag to about 160 characters in length and don’t repeat a keyword or keyphrase more than twice.within your description. Your description should describe what is presented on your webpage as prescisely as possible.

The top three search engines(Google, MSN, and Yahoo) do not pay much attention to keyword meta tags if any at all these days. The search spiders most likely still read them though, so if you want to use keyword meta tags, make sure that they don’t appear spammy. I suggest listing 10 or less main keywords or keyphrases, seperated by commas,. Make sure that they pertain to the content on that specific page and do not include the same keyword more than twice.within..

If some of this sounds like a foreign language to you, I suggest you buckle and pay a professional for help because this my friend, is just the tip of the SEO iceberg. I and any other EXPERIENCED SEO specialist will not dedicate the time to explain in enough detail for someone new to completely understand SEO. Why?

3 good reasons:

1. It took most of us a long time to learn the ins and outs of SEO and because of our successes we understand the value of our services. The value is not equivalent to free.

2. We want to earn a living helping people like you achieve your goals. Spending, hours, weeks, or months typing up detailed instructions for free does not put clothes on our families back and food on our plates. How much time are you going to spend helping someone for free while your family goes hungry or without needed medicines etc..

3. Experienced business owners understand that the COST of a quality advertising campaign is sure to be offset by profits. They are willing to pay us for our time! Therefore, we are usually to busy working for them and unable to help people for free. Fortunately for you, I had a few minutes to spare today and can share a few tips with you :)

Enjoy and Happy Holidays!!!

    Fresh content. Genuine reciprocal links.
ps. Good site (design & content)!
You say on your site you have plenty of clients. What are you running the website for? Are you intending to make money other than driving instruction? Presumably your clients need to be relatively local. Are there any good, on-line local directories for your area? Wouldn’t it be better to advertise the website through traditional means rather than trying to rank high on the Search Engines? (our local GP has appointment cards with local advertisers) (Use the site as informational and to stress your knowledge and ethos–this comes over quite well, I think) Do you have stats for the site (like Statcounter.com). Does anyone publish pass/fail statistics of their pupils??
P.s. Have you tried Google Local?

There’s lots of free banners, logos that advertise other businesses. You just add there advertisement to a page on your site and they’ll improve your rankings. Also there’s lots of free websites, you should take advantage of them and make as many of these free sites as possible making sure you add all the URL’s, Keywords, Tags etc from your main site onto the free sites. Then add all the business logos to the free sites also.

Takes a bit of work but when I did it I got a my site into googles top ten for a few the keywords I used.

I submitted all of my free sites including my main site to http://www.addme.com and in return gained site submission to the following search engines:-

    Google
    Scrub the Web
    Subjex
    Lookseek
    Exactseek
Webposition which is a Web advertisement software and used to Altavista, All the Web and Hotbot.
    Nerdworld
    Voila
    Search It
    Rex
    Mall Park
    Entire Web and
    Ez Traffic

Search Yahoo for the keywords "Web ad software" + "trial" and you should get a long list of companies like Addme and Webposition that will help improve your rankings.

Also, don’t forget to make as many free sites as possible, 50-100 recommended and submit them all to http://www.addme.com and similar sites. Have all the free sites link back to your main.

So have about 100 free websites dedicated to RECIPROCAL LINKS. Have other site admins exchanging Banners, Logos with your site, but instead of asking them to put your sites homepage links onto their sites, have them Copy/Paste and upload a HTML code to their site and in the code will be your main web address. Therefor all the links you trade will lead straight to your main site and Voila, your in the top ten… :)

    I forgot to mention.
It will help a great deal if you add say 100 or more of the most searched for Keywords on the web like GOLF for example to all of your free sites to improve traffic.

You’ll need to get more backlinks to your site to boost the ranking. But the backlinks need to come from other relevant sites.

You can go on to ezine articles and offer a tip for driving in the UK, etc., then lead the link back to your site. You may also want to target driving forums or teen forums (UK-based) that want to learn to drive. Leave a link to your website. That way you get another backlink.

To be honest, the most targeted would be using Google Adwords pay-per-click ads to target the UK or Kent, most specifically. But you don’t want to pay.

The more backlinks you can gain, the better, but they must be relevant. The more targeted, the better.

Adding more content on a regular basis helps keep the search engine’s attention, provide useful, informative articles that act as a public service, advertisement alone doesn’t garner much search engine rank. You can get ghost written articles for about $5 each. Ultimately it may be a good business investment to pay 3rd world seo specialists to submit your site to a bunch of directories, their time is much less expensive than yours, or better yet buy placed links on high ranking blog sites, this is considered shady by google, but you will find many top ranked sites have ‘blogroll’ links from unrelated sites.

Getting dofollow links to your site from blog commenting and forum commenting helps. Some people subscribe to Angela’s backlink guide through warrior forum.

I don’t know about advertisements for other sites, such things are more like link juice drains. Reciprocal Links are also less appreciated by the search engines these days, there are more round about schemes like 3 way linking that attempt to disguise the activity.
